Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 2:59AM Producer Updates 'Escape From New York' Remake
The Escape from New York remake is still happening, likely despite your claims that it could only move
forward over your dead body. But why should you care if John Carpenter's fine with it? And he is, so long as Snake Plissken will "always
be a bad-ass." That's in the contract between the film's creator/writer/director and New Line.

So with that in place, where do we stand? "We have a script. We're out to directors righ now," producer Neal H. Moritz tells Collider.
"We've had quite a few meetings with directors and there's a couple of actors that are really interested in playing Snake and we'll see
what happens."
Early on, Gerard Butler was linked to the role of Snake, probably because news of the remake took hold in the months following
300. But Moritz says even though there's no deal with the actor, it could eventually happen. "Gerard was really interested in
playing it," Moritz confirmed. "He hasn't read the new script yet, so we'll probably have a conversation with him once we get a director
on board."
Butler desperately - and I mean desperately - needs to reestablish his movie tough guy image. There have been too many get-the-girl movies, and while Law Abiding Citizen did well enough, it isn't enough to put the action hero stamp back on him. This would do it. And he'd probably be a good choice.
But as Moritz says, there's still no director. That's the first step (although you could argue signing a star of Butler's magnitude could get a better director). Oh, and one other thing: Moritz isn't married to an R rating. If profanity is what puts the film into the 17-or-older category, then the film would wash its mouth out with soap. Moritz is fine with violence leading to an R, though. Stay strong: Go for rated R.

wish they would have stuck to Carpenter's Escape from Earth instead a few years back..
better idea how about you the cash for another John Carpenter film instead. Keep hearing things about a possible 'Babarella' remake, think this would be a good fit for Mr Carpenter. Im waiting for 'The Ward' to arrive..glad JC is back to work (although im pissed hes not doing the score/soundtrack! for The Ward)
