There are, ironically enough, two Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde movies in the works, both at Universal. One is Guillermo del Toro's, and who knows when it'll become a reality. Before 2017, I think, or at least that's what his long-term production deal with the studio would indicate.

The other is Jekyll, which will star Keanu Reeves. Yes, we know how hard it can be for Reeves to find one characterization per film, much less two. But there's nothing that we can do about that now. We just have to hope for the best. By the way, in case you've forgotten, Reeves has made a few good films recently, even if he's pretty much the same guy all the time.
Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road) wrote the script and Bloody Disgusting has learned that Universal will go to Last House on the Left's Dennis Iliadis to direct. Not a bad choice at all. I liked what Iliadis did with Last House, by and large.
This will apparently be a modernized version of the story, while GdT's will more closely follow Robert Louis Stevenson's original text. But there's only so much the story can change, even in an update. Jekyll will find a way to become unfiltered amorality and then can't control it. I have a feeling the secret potion will become a drug in this version.
Universal will obviously hope for better luck here than it experienced with The Wolfman, and maybe there are some valuable lessons to be learned from that one that can be applied to the rest of the studio's slate of monster movie remakes.
