Sunday, April 25, 2010 at 3:56AM Warner Bros. Prepping 3-D 'Sherlock Holmes' Sequel?
Though we're not exactly closer about finding out where the story will go, plans are afoot to make the sequel to Sherlock Holmes in 3-D. This would be different than all those conversions (including Warner Bros.' Clash of the Titans), the would be a full 3-D production.

What would that mean? Not much to the bottom line. As it stands right now, 3-D cameras aren't terrible reliable catch fast-paced action . That's the reason Michael Bay refuses to do it for Transformers 3. But they do help the overall production and the studio gets to raise those ticket prices. It would also be priced roughly the same by adding cameras as it would with the conversion process.
The Los Angeles Times spoke to wrter Kieran Mulroney, who's all in fvor of the 3-D direction. Guy Ritchie would probably feel the same way. I'm not sure what we would gain from it, though, since it's not exactly the kind of action movie that screams out for 3-D. You could be one of those believers who says everything is better in 3-D, but the technology still has a ways to go, and if the films that were undergoing the conversions didn't make money, all the studios would be less inclined to spend right now.
We do know now that the Mulroneys aren't planning many changes to the structure, though. "He was a brawler and he had martial arts training, Mulroney says. "He didn't smoke a curvy pipe." Well, some of that stuff's debatable. For example, his martial arts training receives scant mention in the stories and...yes, he did smoke a pipe.
That's still not a lot of reason for a 3-D production, especially since it's kind of an unproven commodity. I don't think Titans is strong enough evidence for the 3-D, and that has to be on the light of things Warner Bros. is thinking about. Obviously, Sherlock stands to do a little better on the surface. But would you pay an extra $3 just to see that stuff with glasses on?

He did smoke a pipe but NOT a curvy one - not the calabash type one he's usually portrayed with. And he does smoke a straight, simple (probably cherry wood) one in Ritchies "Sherlock Holmes".
The remarks about his martial arts training are also not SO scant - Holmes is mentioned fitghting a number of times and "baritsu" saved his life.
Die 3D, DIE!
Yes i will pay 3 extra dollars to see it but i would rather not. Old time based movies should not be 3-d unless it were like a" back to the future" kind of deal.
