'Harold & Kumar' Creators Directing 'American Pie 4'

You know all those direct-to-DVD American Pie movies, like Band Camp? Yeah, those never happened. After making a trilogy of movies with the original cast, Pie was branded for about a half-dozen movies that featured Eugene Levy walk-ons. Apparently, they made a little money. But now a fourth American Pie movie is heading back to theaters. The Hollywood Reporter says that Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the guys who created Harold & Kumar, will write and direct the new Pie movie. Well, I guess it could be a lot worse than that. At least they know R-rated comedy. This dovetails nicely with a recent interview in which Seann William Scott said he'd love to come back as Stifler. Outside of Allyson Hannigan, he's the only cast member whose career seems to have forward momentum. Apparently, a lot of the cast members would like to come back, which is one of the reasons Universal is moving forward. Gee, imagine that. As for H & K, Hurwitz and Schlossberg aren't directing A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas, instead giving up that mantle to Todd Strauss Schulson. His only other feature film is Private High Musical, which never saw a theatrical release in the US. On that front, then, you might consider this a step backwards. That film will shoot this summer, having ironed out Kal Penn's White House work schedule, and I'm sure we'll get some casting announcements about American Pie 4 sooner than later.
