At Wonder-Con this weekend, it was announced that National Treasure 3 movie is speeding ahead, with Jerry Bruckheimer hiring his Prince of Persia of Sorcerer's Apprentice writers to work on the script.

Here's the rundown on the Treasure series: The first one was pretty good entertainment. It wasn't great, but the premise and characters worked and it was more fun than that year's Da Vinci Code. But it was bound to produce a bad sequel, and it did.
Unfortunately for us, it also made $100 million more than its predecessor worldwide, and with the exponentially expanding influence of foreign markets on these decisions, another historical mission was unavoidable. Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro will craft the screenplay, but it's too early to say what it will be about. These guys are apparently Bruckheimer's new Rosso and Elliott, the writers of the Pirates movies and the second movie in this series.
Nic Cage and Justin Bartha will obviously be back, and I suspect Diane Kruger and Jon Voight will return, as well. Cage might try saving some of his millions this time. Jon Turtletaub is rumored to be back in the director's chair again. I suppose it's possible that Bruckheimer and company can learn from the mistakes of the second one, but it's more likely the first one just got lucky.

I agree, Colin. I really enjoyed the first one, but the second one was not good at all (and that scene with Nicolas Cage pretending to be drunk was just abysmal.)
