Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 5:10AM 'Losers' Director Not Attached to 'Robotech' (Yet)
Director Sylvain White has The Losers in theaters this month. It looks like it could be a bit of fun. Profitable? Maybe, maybe not. If it is a hit, White could be in high demand, and it could speed up Robotech, which he's been linked to before.

IESB asked White about that very thing: Is he attached to the live-action adaptation produced by Tobey Maguire? "It's not a project [that has been] green lit," White admits. "It's a great cult series. When it came out, I saw it in France when I was growing up - saw it in French. Its an amazing cartoon. I hope it comes to fruition. (Laughter)"
Read into that laughter what you will. But White goes on to say he's definitely interested in making the film, but "there is no official thing. They sent me a draft and I liked it. It's a work in progress."
But I suspect since this is the same studio that's distributing The Losers, White's name could be called and Robotech might speed up a little bit. One thing that could hold it back is the apathetic reaction to most anime adaptations or limited releases in the US. True, they do well with the core audience, but the number of breakouts from that pool is awfully slim. Warners was also on the hook for Speed Racer, so you can't blame the studio for being a little gunshy.
