Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 5:16AM Anton Yelchin to Star in 'Fright Night' Remake
The remake of Fright Night is beginning to take shape, with Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) signing up to direct the update and now, according to Heat Vision Blog, Gillespie's production has landed Anton Yelchin for the starring role.

Yelchin, who was in two high-profile summer movies last May (Trek and Terminator) will play the Charley Brewster role originated by William Ragsdale. The remake is being written by Marti Noxon, whose work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer qualifies her, and the Mad Men experience doesn't hurt, either.
Here's the only thing: Just a few hours ago, I said the right move for DreamWorks to make with Dinner for Schmucks is to go for the R rating. That would apply here as well, except, as Heat Vision notes, "DreamWorks seems to have Fright on a potentially similar path as the company's 2007 hit Disturbia. That was PG-13 and should have been. I disagree that it also holds true for Fright Night. In fact, it really kind of hamstrings it, even though you can get away with a lot more in a PG-13 now than ever before.
We'll see how it goes, but I think this is a remake worth doing, which only applies if they're going to do it right. I like the pieces they're putting together, but I hope the tone and content is where it should be.
