Here's an interesting disturbance in the Force: Lucasfilm has announced that it is creating a new animated Star Wars TV series. And it's a comedy, but not in the Jake-Lloyd-unintentional-laughter sort of way.

As strange as it might sound initially, Lucas is putting the project in the right hands. Seth Green and Matthew Senreich from Robot Chicken will develop the series and write episodes with Daily Show writer Brendan Hay. Todd Grimes of the animated Back at the Barnyard will direct.
Said Grimes of the concept, "We're looking at Star Wars from a new perspective; this will be a glimpse at how the rest of the galaxy is affected by the events of the Saga. There's a lot of humor to be mined from that."
"The Star Wars universe is so dense and rich; it's crazy to think that there aren't normal, mundane everyday problems in a world so
well-defined. And it's even crazier to think of what those problems might be, since it's all set in a galaxy far, far away," Green added. "What do these characters do when they're not overthrowing Empires?"
I have to admit it: That's a quality pitch. There's no word on which network will carry the show, but you've got to think cable, and probably one that's animation-friendly. There are two of those that come to mind.
