Wachowskis Working on "Hard R" Gay Soldier Movie

The Wachowskis will be back in a theater near you, pending the discovery of a distributor for their new film, which is described as a war movie about a gay soldier stationed in Iraq and his relationship with an Iraqi. Oh, and it's supposed to be "hard R." If there's two things the studios love betting on, it's Iraq War movies and male homosexuality. News of the project dates back to earlier this year, when Arianna Huffington (pictured above with the siblings), revealed that she and Jesse Ventura shot some test footage for the Wachowskis. At the time, she said it was science fiction, and that was the end of it. But now it's being reported that the film is in fact about the war, begins some time in the near future and then backtracks a few years to cover the scope of the story. The gay relationship is nothing new to the Wachowskis, having explored it in Bound almost 15 years ago now, but set against the backdrop of the war, this one may be hard to put together for them. Andy and Lana apparently want this to be their next directorial mission, but something tells me that the combination of this subject matter and the failure of Speed Racer will have them looking somewhere other than producer Joel Silver, their guardian angel over the past decade-plus.
