Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 3:18AM Vampire Secret Agent Book Becoming a Movie
Here's an idea I wish I'd come up with, much like Ooops! All Berries! Crunch Berries. A book called Blood Oath is being turned into a movie, and it's about...wait for it...a vampire secret agent. I have no idea if the book is any good, but that's a sweet place to start.

Actually, looking at the cover for Christopher Farnsworth's book, I can't say I'm a fan of the slug, "The President's Vampire." For a long time, I believe that office was occupied by Dick Cheney. Anyway, the guy who acquired the rights, Warp Films' Lucas Foster, recognizes that this could turn silly, but says Farnsworth sells it the right way. "It’s a big idea and it’s an idea that in the wrong hands could have been cheesy. He did a very good job of making the reader, and me, buy it. It’s the right tone between thriller and improbable fantasy.”
The story goes that a vampire was captured by the Army just after the Civil War, and is forced into protecting then-President Andrew Johnson. His blood oath turns into guarding every president for about a century and a half.
Says Heat Vision in its announcement of the upcoming project, "In Oath, the vampire, named Nathaniel Cade, is paired with a new human handler and finds himself embroiled in a plot involving a monstrous new form of biological weapon with a connection to the White House." The book has just been released this week, so if you're interested you can check it out wherever fine books are sold or downloaded.
Foster, who has co-produced Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Law Abiding Citizen, has also purchased the rights to Farnsworth's follow-up, the unfinished Black Site. “I’m using my own money so I’m pretty careful with the things I develop, and I tend to make the things I develop,” Foster said. “I want to get a fast start, and I’m hoping to get this in production next year.
