Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 1:19PM Jean-Claude Van Damme Joins 'Kung Fu Panda 2'
I hate to say it, Pixar fans, but I'm really looking forward to Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom, and if the Lasseteers only have Cars 2 in their corner next summer, Pixar's playing catch-up.

First, Panda was a lot of fun, certainly a better time at the movies than Cars was. It also made a healthy amount of money and the sequel should easily replicate that. Cars was bigger in the US, and the sequel might be, too, but I'd much rather see Kaboom of Doom.
An already intriguing development - Charlie Kaufman writing something for the movie - was followed up by the hiring of Gary Oldman. Now Coming Soon has confirmed with DreamWorks that Michelle Yeoh, Victor Garber, and Jean-Claude Van Damme are in the cast. JCVD FTW!Yeoh will portray a soothsaying goat (and Soothsaying Goat is my favorite Jefferson Airplane album), Garber is Master Thundering Rhino. Van Damme is playing Master Croc, which, admittedly, is fun to say.
I absolutely love the attitude the producers (and presumably the studio) are taking with this. They know they've got a built-in audience for what was already a fairly irreverent mainstream piece of candy, so now they're making a big push for not just parents but young post-ironic types the world over with the inclusion of Kaufman and Van Damme. Seriously, did you ever think you'd see a movie that cut checks for those two guys?
The director's new; it's Jennifer Yuh Nelson this time, and I thought John Stevenson and Marc Osborn did a great job with the first one. Hopefully, there's not much of a drop-off. Since Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger are returning as screenwriters (minus whatever Kaufman contributed), we should be set.
One other point of note: DreamWorks has punched the sequel in for May 27th next year. That's Memorial Day weekend, typically a great time to launch an animated film.

Go Van Damme! Seriously, I'd rather he do it, than someone I don't give a damn about.
Van Damme is a great voice actor! This sequel is going to be AWESOME.
Jean-Claude Van Damme will be giving voice over for Master Croc in kung fu panda 2. i always found Jean-Claude Van Damme very heavy and strong(i am fan of his martial art thing). now its really hilarious to hear him as Master Croc.lol
