First Look at Johnny and Angelina in 'The Tourist'

Here's our first look at Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp in The Tourist, courtesy of Coming Soon. You can enlarge the photo if you want, but what you see here pretty much tells the whole story. The film has been through a few changes already, both in front of and behind the camera, but it's hard to knock the stars and The Tourist is now going to be directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, whose feature debut was The Lives of Others, one of the best movies of the past ten years. This one has - gasp - an original screenplay, although that's gone through a few revisions, too. The original script was written by Julian Fellows, but Christopher McQuarrie is among the other names credited. But we're certainly giving this one the benefit of the doubt, thanks to two of the biggest movie stars in the world (both of whom are great actors, too) and a director who has already shown estimable promise. Depp plays an American tourist in Italy, trying to mend a broken heart, and the intrigue begins when he meets Jolie under what seem like orchestrated circumstances. Columbia's putting this one out next February. Seems like a really odd time to me, but whatever.
