Eastwood's J. Edgar Hoover Movie Lands Leo

It's a bit predictable, really, but Leonardo DiCaprio might be set to star in the J. Edgar Hoover biopic put together by Clint Eastwood and producer Brian Grazer. The script was written by Dustin Lance Black, who put together the screenplay for Gus Van Sant's Milk, meaning Leo is the only non-Oscar winner sitting at the main table. That can't last forever. Deadline reports that DiCaprio, Eastwood, and company will begin working on the film later this year, and just because it hasn't been their year, Universal began working on this...but now it's over at Warner Bros. Finally, some good luck for Warners! And finally, Leonardo DiCaprio will work with a solid director for a change. Because Hoover was probably the second most important man in the United States for almost 50 years, you might think a film about the first FBI chief could be all-encompassing, but it will reportedly focus on the beginning of the Bureau. And then there's all the cross-dressing stuff - which may or may not have happened, anyway - but that's not going to be in this movie, either. Instead, it's likely to be a deep look at a man who was hard to like but nevertheless did a very important job and a pivotal time. DiCaprio was rumored for the role a couple months ago, after Grazer and Eastwood had met about the project and started the ball rolling. Now it's on target for a late 2011 opening, because it's the kind of prestige picture Warner Bros. probably wants to see in the 2012 Oscar race. Of course, the studio hasn't announced anything, but with a mighty big Leo movie a month away, this could be the kind of information Warners prefers to release while pimping Inception, as well.
