There has been much to cover concerning the remake of Fright Night, and the latest announcement just about answers all the questions. British actress Imogen Poots - who maybe should have considered a name change once upon a time - will play Anton Yelchin's girlfriend in the update, "part of the the popular crowd and unaware of his earlier life as a nerd."
You may have seen Imogen in 28 Weeks Later or in the new Michael Douglas-Jesse Eisenberg movie Solitary Man. She will also be featured in a new version of Jane Eyre opposite Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska.
Heat Vision adds that the movie will shoot this summer in New Mexico, with Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Toni Collette, David Tennant, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse already confirmed. As remakes go, this one looks solid. Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) is directing, and the cast, in addition to being really in line with the characters they're bringing to life, is pretty enviable. You put David Tennant, Toni Collette, and Colin Farrell in just about anything and it could be really interesting. Yelchin, while not having a lot to do as Chekov in Star Trek, was pretty good in Terminator Salvation and has shown great maturity over the past few years.
The best thing you can say about this update, I think, is that it's been thought out pretty well. There's nothing cheap and gimmicky about the casting, and while it is banking on the vampire revival going on in pop culture, it doesn't seem to want to be like any of the other films and TV shows. That's a positive step. If anything, it looks like a vampire remake for people who hate vampire movies and remakes.
