Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 12:23AM Daniel Day-Lewis Rumored for Professor Moriarty
Hold on there, Brad Pitt. There's an unconfirmed report - of course it is - that Guy Ritchie might look elsewhere for his Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes 2. According to Superhero Hype, the director has Daniel Day-Lewis in mind for the villain. Well...that would rule.

Day-Lewis needs no introduction, of course. And as villains go, Day-Lewis won an Oscar for for There Will Be Blood and should have for Gangs of New York. He would be an ideal Moriarty, better than Pitt in so many ways, and I certainly don't mean to disparage Pitt. The only drawback I can see is that Day-Lewis might be a better archrival to Sherlock Holmes if the film were more traditional and itself more seriously. Maybe it wouldn't matter, but that's, again, the only drawback I can see.
"If that that doesn't work out," reports the site, "other names that have been bandied about as being in consideration include Sean Penn, Javier Bardem and Gary Oldman." Mmmmm...no. I mean, Oldman, maybe. I don't think I'd take either of the other guys. Again, not to disparage, but Penn's just all wrong, from the vibe on down, and Bardem is fantastic, but still seems forced here.
Of course, this is all grist for the rumor mill, but I've never fully accepted Pitt in that role. The logical reason to think of him, though, is ticket sales. And of course, the way Ritchie is giving the franchise modern action and more humor means the rules are a little different than the way Sir Arthur Conan Doyle laid them out.
But if you had to take one of those guys for this role, who'd you pick? We'll see if anything at all comes of this.

Now I dont know much about Sherlock Holmes or about this villain Professor Moriarty but I will say I doubt this would happen, it would be awesome in a way but also not...
The reason I dont see this happening is b/c he would obviously have to play a supporting role & share onscreen time with Downey, Law, & McAdams. Now I really dont think the ultimate thespian would be willing to, I mean he is a leading Oscar winning man right?
Also the reason why this may not be sooo awesome is b/c do I really want DDL to not be the main focus of a film?
-Gangs was different, it was Scorsese directing & the role suited him perfectly
There Will Be Blood will go down as one of films finest performances as well as his My Left Foot as well as many of his other films....
I just dont know if this will happen... Can someone explain the professor characteristics or have any reading suggestions to get a better feel of the character?
Daniel Day-Lewis would fit Moriarty quite well. If they do a Dark Knight style strategy and put a lot of focus on developing the villian, I think it would work out. Though you don't pay for Downey to make him sit off to the side, however... would be nice, but unlikey to happen.
The footballers who supported the bans on playing for dummy 'multi-racial' teams during the apartheid era. The heroes of the African game who deployed their prowess on the dusty township football parks (you could hardly call them stadiums). Often accompanied by choirs of fans singing their hearts out, and not the obvious borrowed-from-Britain anthems and hymns (ironically, the mound occupied by the Liverpool choir at Anfield was an abbreviation of the Afrikaans word for hill — 'kopje') who mixed their adulation for the players with some rousing calls to arms in the struggle for freedom, most of which were not understood by the authorities, who rarely went to black football games during the apartheid era.
