Who wants popcorn? I have high hopes that Jerry Bruckheimer, who used to do better popcorn than Jiffy Pop, is on point with The Sorcerer's Apprentice, a modernized, live-action, mouse-free spin on one of the most famous animated sequences off all time. But lately, whether it's massive budgets or a loss of the Midas touch, Bruckheimer's movies haven't delivered the goods. There's nothing wrong with a movie being entertaining for two hours and then you get out of the seat and resume your day. I liked the first National Treasure because that's exactly what it was, but the sequel was bad, and most of Jerry's films since the first Pirates have been, too. I mean, honestly, when the counterargument is, "Well, Deja Vu's pretty solid," you know Bruck's not exactly on a hot streak. And the reason I hope this is good popcorn is because, when the rubber meets the road, it should be: Good vs. evil clearly defined, splashy effects, a bit of comedy, Alfred Effing Molina...how can you screw this up? Two ways, really, the first being too much money and the second being Nicolas Cage. Just looking at the track record there. Here are two new featurettes that reinforce how much fun this movie could be. But will it be?
