Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 5:22PM New Poster for 'Dinner for Schmucks'
Hey, hey - there's a new poster for Dinner for Schmucks, the upcoming comedy starring Steve Carell and Paul Rudd, but you can see that already.

The film is a remake of a French comedy you likely didn't see, so pipe down about it being a remake. Thanks. The Dinner Game - or Le dîner de cons as it was called in Gaul - came out in 1998. It was written and directed by Francis Veber, whose work was also spun into The Birdcage (because he co-wrote the film adaptation of the play La Cage Aux Folles), Father's Day (though we won't hold that against him), The Toy with Richard Pryor and Jackie Gleason, and the Tom Hanks vehicle The Man With One Red Shoe. So the remake deal is nothing new, and remaking Veber is almost a time-honored tradition, not that I recommend a double feature of The Toy and Father's Day.
This time around, Jay Roach is directing, and he has wisely bowed out of the Fockers family, based on the awful new trailer for that film. Sure, it'll probably triple the grosses for Schmucks, but sometimes that's the right decision. Schmucks opens July 30th.

At least that poster is half as creepy as the first one. The way Steve Carell looks here just turns me off.
