Monday, June 28, 2010 at 10:51AM Hugh Hefner Says 'Playboy' Movie Still a Go
It looks as though that Hugh Hefner bio-pic will be happening in the next year or two. MovieWeb caught up with Hef, not so surprisingly at the Playboy Mansion, and the publisher and robed raconteur provided a tiny update.

"Oh yes, Brian Grazer (is producing it), yes, it's going to happen," Hef said of Playboy, a fitting title. "It's taken a long time to get the right director and the right screenplay but it's happening."
Now hold on there, Hef. If it's taken a long time to get the right director, does that mean Brett Ratner's out? Because he was linked to this thing two years ago. The script is a different matter, but I'm kind of hoping they did replace Ratner. Hef doesn't say that outright, of course, but we can dream, can't we?
And the plan to cast Robert Downey, Jr. still seems to be in place, according to Hef. It's really good casting, although I do wonder if RDJ is maybe five years too old for the launch of Playboy, which Hefner started when he was only 27. That can probably be overlooked, especially with Downey in the role.
MovieWeb says the bio-pic is slated for 2011, but good luck. If it's Downey, he has Sherlock Holmes 2 and Gravity to do this year and possibly Oz: The Great and Powerful next year, which can only happen after The Avengers shoots in late winter and early spring. So maybe the movie will go into production next year, but I can't see it actually arriving in theaters then.
