Friday, June 4, 2010 at 2:03PM Daniel Craig Rumored for 'Dragon Tattoo' Remake
The second movie betrayed him a little bit, but to me, Daniel Craig's performance as 007 in Casino Royale is the best Bond performance there is. A couple of the early Connery films are more iconic, of course. Better? That's a push. But I don't think anybody has ever been better in a single movie than Craig; it's the strongest development the character ever had, and with such a high-wire act of reinventing the longest-running movie character in the world, the degree of difficulty makes it an even more memorable portrayal.

It's probably not too big a reach to say that Craig will be remembered as the best actor to play Bond, either, while we're on the subject, and we'll get to see him spread his wings a little more if he lands the male lead in the remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, as The Wrap is reporting.
That would mean one of two things. 1) Either Brad Pitt didn't like the script when it was delivered to him on a silver platter a couple weeks ago or 2) The filmmakers decided Pitt or his schedule or something else wasn't right for the project. But I like the idea of Craig better, anyway, even though Pitt has proven time and again he's a pretty damn good character actor.
Sony says there are no active negotiations, while The Wrap says Craig is in Los Angeles this weekend to wine and dine with director David Fincher, discussing the role. Also of note: Fincher is apparently contracted to direct the entire Stieg Larsson trilogy, which is terribly exciting news. That's also the best business decision of Fincher's career, potentially, because the books are simply revered the world over. Why wouldn't you want to hang your hat on them?
The character is called Mikael Blomkvist in the novel, and I'm sure that will be westernized a little bit. If I remember correctly, the action is moving from Sweden to Canada for the remake. Carey Mulligan is set to play Lisabeth Salander at last report, although that is not confirmed by the studio, either. She'd be a great choice for it, though, and I can't see a reason why Hollywood wouldn't want to get in the Carey Mulligan business at this stage.
As for Craig, he's doing a great job filling the void in his 007 schedule created by MGM's financial clustercuss. He has Cowboys & Aliens shooting next week, and that's big 2011 summertime fun, and now it looks like he'll have something for awards season next year, too. Supposing Bond gets back on track, that would probably be November 2012, so while most Bond actors in the past 30 years have struggled to establish or reestablish themselves outside the franchise while wearing the movies' most famous tuxedo, Craig is making his mark even without Bond.

Yes, please is all I have to say. He will bring Blomkvist on the big screen BEING Blomkvist.
Colin, you have pretty high praise for Craig that kinda surprises me. I mean Casino Royale as the best Bond movie ever? Come on,.... I'm not sure about that . Also him being the best Bond ever? No way, IMO, Sean Connery will forever be THE James Bond!
I like Craig for this but like to see someone else get a shot at this film
You misread me: Best Bond performance ever, but yes, I think Casino Royale is probably no lower than third on the all-time 007 list. It's certainly the best since the late 1960s.
Ok ok now I think I can probably agree with you on that ... But I still am sticking with Sean Connery as my fav bond forever.
With Craig as Blomkvist It will become a blockbuster pile of crap. He is too much of a superhero to be a writer or a journalist. It just drives me nuts on how much they blow these characters out of proportion!
