New Thriller Seeks Modern Spin on 'Psycho'

I dug Disturbia, even though Rear Window is my favorite film and the Shia LaBeouf flick is a clear remake of Hitchcock's voyeuristic classic. Now FilmNation Entertainment and A Bigger Boat are trying to "be to Psycho what Disturbia was to Rear Window," which is easier said than done. The movie in question is House at the End of the Street, and The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Jennifer Lawrence and Max Thieriot, which doesn't exactly make me jump out of my seat. Lawrence was in The Burning Plain with Charlize Theron, and Thieriot has primarily played kids in family-friendly films, so a Norman Bates turn will be a big switch. Lawrence will play a girl who moves to a new town with her mother, and soon learns that a double murder occurred in the house across the street. Then she makes friends with the survivor, played by Thieriot. Wonder if he's also into taxidermy. There's no studio attached yet, though Jonathan Mostow, who directed Terminator 3, is on board as a producer. Mark Tonderai will direct, and this is easily his biggest project. Certainly, Distrubia had a few bigger industry connections working for it, but it all starts with the script. If they get that right, maybe they've got something here. But I won't hold my breath yet.
