Sunday, June 6, 2010 at 10:49PM 'New Moon' Sweeps MTV Movie Awards
It was a sweep for The Twilight Saga: New Moon at the MTV Movie Awards, because it's only the awesomest movie in the
history of awesome movies. You didn't know that?
We've got the complete rundown for you, but the film's dominance was so overwhelming that Anna Kendrick won an award for another movie. There were
other winners, of course, like Zach Galifianakis and Ken Jeong from The Hangover and somehow Tom Felton from Harry Potter winning Best
Villain over Christoph Waltz. Shouldn't a portrayal of Nazi always win in that category? Rain also won for Biggest Bad-Ass Star for his work in
Ninja Assassin, which is probably the least predictable award of the night. It also signals that nobody in the category was in
Twilight.
Best Movie:
New Moon Best Female Performance:
Kristen Stewart - New Moon Best Male Performance:
Robert Pattinson - New Moon Best Breakout Star:
Anna Kendrick - New Moon...er... Up In the Air Best Comedic Performance:
Zach Galifianakis - The Hangover Best Villain:
Tom Felton - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Best Fight:
Beyonce vs. Ali Larter - Obsessed Best Kiss:
Take a Wild Guess - New Moon Best WTF Moment:
Naked Ken Jeong in a Car Trunk - The Hangover Global Superstar:
Robert Pattinson (**Not counting Remember Me, apparently) Best Scared As Shit Performance:
Amanda Seyfried - Jennifer's Body Biggest Bad-Ass Star:
Rain - Ninja Assassin I know it's like complaining about the outcome of a wrestling match, but how does Obsessed even qualify for this year's awards? It opened two months before the 2009 awards. What's the cut-off, exactly, and what does it say about the rest of the fight scenes if there's not a better one in 14 months?

You know what's sad prior, to 2005 the MTV movie awards were actually pretty decent. I mean the first 13 movies to win Best Movie were T2, A Few Good Men, Menace II Society, Pulp Fiction, Se7en, Scream, Titanic, There's Something about Mary, The Matrix, Gladiator and the three Lord of the Rings movies. That's seven Best Picture nominees and six films that have an average Tomato score of 86% and none below 80%.
Since then though it's been, Napoleon Dynamite, Wedding Crashers, PotC: Dead Man's Chest, Transformers, Twilight and now New Moon. None of those have scores above 80% and only two (ND and WC) are above 60%. Now I'm no sure if it's because of MTV's changing demographics or an alteration in the voting procedure, but that is an extreme, and very sudden, drop in quality.
Great post D....
I never realized or was aware of that.
The MTV are just a popularity contest and the judges/audience are tweens. It is sad & dissapointing. I mean it must be about the money not the quality. I dont understand it, I hate it when great movies & such get butchered in favor of mediocre or horrible movies.
And the winners ARE SO FUCKING AWKWARD!!!
Amanda Seyfried & Kirsten Stewart what the fuck is wrong with you two. Are you guys really that dumb & stupidly awkward in presenting a stupid little speech. I mean WOW do they think it is cute or something b/c its pretty pathetic. I mean grow the fuck up. Say thank you & move on...
Ohh by the way KEN JEONG your amazing & probably won me over for life after your funny turned touching speech. Im glad your wife is doing well. May she continue to do so. There is a guy who has some fucking class & is extremely funny lol
Its because the only people that watch MTV now are pre teen and teenage Britney Spears wannabes. Does MTV even show music anymore? MTV lost its older audience when TRL took over and only had videos in the countdown of "Pop Stars". Britney, J-Lo, Christina Aguilera and others ruined MTV. Now they don't even have music videos i don't think. The core audience is 10 - 16 year old girls that think Twilight and Hanna Montana are good. I got home tonight and watched the Encore just to see Tom Cruise and some of the presenters. The only good moments were when the host sang the song about Avatar which got a couple chuckles out of me, and Sandra Bullock winning the generation award. She really has become such a great actor and person. Loved the speech especially the part about the Gulf. I will try to watch anything involving movies, but MTV just sucks ass now
You know what pisses me off most? Rain won for Badass Star or whatever? His movie was shit, he's not an action hero, I think that if there was some way they could've shoehorned a New Moon star into that category (even someone who wasn't in a fight, like Peter Facinelli) and gave them the award, that wouldn't bother me as much. But Rain? I didn't know 14-year-old squealing girls were into fake-ass shitty "martial arts" movies. I thought that was a boys-only club.
@Vince um..what? Rain deserved that award. He trained so hard for that role and put in way more effort than any of the other contenders. Did you see the pictures of his body transformation, or the behind-the-scenes footage? He did over 90% of his own stunts, and because he kept getting better, the choreographers continually made the fight sequences harder. Ninja Assassin had a terrible plot, and the ketchup-style blood did irritate me, but the fight scenes were awesome - hence why Rain was up for biggest badass, and NA not for best movie. Rain's not claiming to be some big action star, he's said himself he wants to do other roles, *has* done other roles, it's just he was so good at it that everyone who reviewed NA automatically assumed he was.
Anyway, considering NA was R-rated, I very much doubt the usual MTV target audience voted for him - teenage girls would probably have gone for Channing Tatum instead. It's exactly because there weren't any big teen hearthrobs in that category that made the result fairer. I thought Rain was one of the few people who deserved the awards they won.
