Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 8:46PM Wow, This 'Mortal Kombat' Short Kicks Major Ass
Who knows if this will actually go through the proper channels and become a feature film, but if the internet screams loud enough, it's certainly possible. Kevin Tancharoen, who directed the update of Fame last year, put together a short film to try to secure financing for an R-rated Mortal Kombat movie at Warner Bros. I think you'll be impressed.

Kotaku tracked down the short, which doesn't pull any punches (pardon the pun). The feature-length version would be really intense. Latino Review was able to track down the cast list, by and large: Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite) is Jacks, Jeri Ryan is Sonya Blade, Undisputed III's Lateef Crowder is Baraka, Ian Anthony Dale, who will be in the new Tekken movie, is Scorpion, and martial artist Matt Mullins is Johnny Cage. There are other cast members still to be identified.
Would Warners stick with these players? Doubtful, at least across the board. But Warner Bros. is, at this point in time, the most plugged-in studio among the majors when it comes to delivering not just what the audience wants but exceeding those expectations. WB rolled the dice on the Christopher Nolan Batman movies, gambled on The Hangover, made a very entertaining Sherlock Holmes, and with Watchmen...well, at least the studio allowed it to be made that way. That alone showed some guts and faith in the creative element.
So maybe this time around, a Mortal Kombat movie will show the blood and hardcore violence that made the game a staple of pizza parlors the world over. Check out the short:

FUCK YEAH!!!
Oh & Michael Jai White needs to be in this movie he is incredible, maybe not acting but he is should be an action star no doubt.
Wow that was impressive no way I saw that coming from the same guy who updated Fame lol
How cool was that!!! I hope this goes super viral. This would definitely be a movie for those of us who grew up on the original Mortal Kombat games.
I think I just pissed myself
not gonna lie, i would see that in a heartbeat
According to Jeri Ryan, this is a "proof of concept" by the director to the studio that has the rights to Mortal Kombat showing them his vision of the franchise. Let's hope they buy in, fast!!!
That was better then the (two or three) crap movies they made. I would see that.
Still Halo has a more adaptable story, just as good proof of concepts and no forward momentum. Just saying I wont hold my breath.
In theory it might be worth a look. I'd watch it only for Michael Jai White.
Speaking of The Dark Knight and The Hangover, we've already talked about Michael Jai White, who was in The Dark Knight, but Ian Anthony Dale played Ken Jeong's number 1 in The Hangover.
