Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 2:45PM Brand New Poster for Neil Marshall's 'Centurion'
IGN has the first official US poster for Centurion, the new period war epic from The Descent director Neil Marshall. It stars the suddenly hot Michael Fassbender and the always hot Olga Kurylenko.

The latest release information we have for Centurion is: VOD, XBox, and Amazon on July 23rd and in theaters on August 27th. I have to say, the VOD market is finally starting to generate some interest. I'm looking forward to this one next month as well as The Killer Inside Me in a couple weeks. For films that can't afford a big theatrical push up front, VOD makes a lot of sense.
The downside is you may not get the film the way it's truly meant to be seen, which would be the same downside as waiting for the DVD. But the technology is really affordable now, so I think in the majority of instances, you're fine going the VOD route. I've only used Amazon once (Neil Jordan's Ondine), but I don't love watching movies on my computer so I'm not sure I'd do that again if I had another choice.
As for this film, let's synopsize (which actually is a word, I've found out):

The Roman Empire stretches from Egypt to Spain, and East as far as the Black Sea. But in northern Britain, the relentless onslaught of conquest has ground to a halt in face of the guerrilla tactics of an elusive enemy: the savage and terrifying tribes known as the Picts.Quintus, sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, marches north with General Virilus’ legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the earth and destroy their leader Gorlacon. But when the legion is ambushed on unfamiliar ground, and Virilus taken captive, Quintus faces a desperate struggle to keep his small platoon alive behind enemy lines, evading remorseless Pict pursuers over harsh terrain, as the band of soldiers race to rescue their General, and to reach the safety of the Roman frontier. Kurylenko should have been Black Widow in Iron Man 2, she was solid in Quantum of Solace and Hitman, and maybe she'll become a new Milla Jovovich, specializing in action films. I could see it. From a recent batch of Centurion production photos we shared with you, it looks like she's getting plenty of experience here. Fassbender has Jonah Hex this month, got (and deserved) raves for Inglourious Basterds last year, and now there are rumors that he's in the running to play both Magneto in X-Men: First Class and the new Spider-Man villain. He'd only be one, not both, and I'd go Magneto. Such a strong character and a chance to do a couple turns as that guy as opposed to what would more likely be a one-off in the Parkerverse.
