Monday, July 12, 2010 at 4:15AM Eric Bana Rumored for Potential New Spy Franchise
Espionage is still big business. Just look at the recent headlines about those Russian spies in Connecticut. I wonder why, with as many real-life stories about spies and double agents - like the Cambridge Five, for example - why we don't see more of those from time to time. But until we do, more fictional superspies are headed to theaters, including Andy McNab's Nick Stone.

Filmofilia says Hyde Park Entertainment likes Eric Bana for the role of the former British Special Air Force soldier who becomes an intelligence worker in McNab's 12-novel series. One of those books, called Firewall, is the basis for Echelon, presumably the first film in the Nick Stone series.
In the book, Stone tries to prevent terrorists from hacking the world's largest computer database. He's on the run all over Europe, apparently, and the story involves the Russian crime syndicate.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Bana one of the wish-list guys to be the new James Bond before Daniel Craig took it over? He's certainly cut out to do something like this, combining action and intelligence, but we may be a little over-espionaged at the moment. Bourne and Bond are still vaguely around, and Jack Ryan's coming back. And those are just the big three; there are several other government agents still coming our way before we ever get to this one.

With that pic, he could start in movie version of "The Two Corys".
