The Dude does not abide when it comes to a sequel to The Big Lebowski. It would be unusual for Joel and Ethan Coen to go
down that road, anyway, but the brothers hadn't totally dismissed it in the past. It usually comes up, by the way, when John Turturro is interviewed
and then the Coens have to respond.

Still, it's an iconic role for Jeff Bridges, a newly minted Oscar winner, so if it were ever going to happen, now might be the best time. Bridges
presumably has more bankability than he has in many years, and he just worked with the Coens again on True Grit. So...what are the odds?
"We talked about it occasionally," Bridges tells MTV of his time on the True Grit set, "but no plans man, no plans...I don't think it's gonna
happen."
But that doesn't mean Bridges has walled himself off from the idea. "But if it happens — what a wonderful surprise," Bridges adds enthusiastically.
As for True Grit, it's the Coens doing a western, which Bridges more or less correctly says is for the first time. No Country is western geographically, but it's more a detective story than anything else. O Brother is a southern-fried version of Homer's Odyssey. But that doesn't mean there haven't been strong western themes in their work.
True Grit won John Wayne an Oscar and is based on Charles Portis' book. The new version of the film focuses more on the girl searching for her father, and that character is played by the relatively unknown Hailee Steinfeld, but the big names are here, too. In addition to Bridges, we've got Matt Damon and Josh Brolin, so the Coens aren't fooling around.

I'm more excited about True Grit than I am the prospect of another Lebowski movie. I am a huge fan of the first film, but fail to see why that character needs to go on another adventure. Hopefully the Coens are smart enough to realize that like American Graffiti 2, Caddyshack 2, and Blues Brothers 2000 before it, The Bigger Lebowski is probably nothing more than a very bad idea...
