Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 3:26AM This Other 'Twilight' Guy Joins 'X-Men: First Class'
Producer Bryan Singer copped to really Taylor Lautner in X-Men: First Class, a kind of prequely origin thing that Kick-Ass director Matthew
Vaughn is developing for a release next summer. He couldn't get that Twilight guy, but now Edi Gathegi, who plays Laurent in that series, has
joined the First Class cast.

According to Deadline, Gathegi will play Darwin in the film, a bi-racial mutant who can change his appearance to match his immediate environment. The process is called
"reactive evolution" in the comic book series, and if nothing else, that gives the character some pretty cool CGI. He's got, like, instant Wonder Twin
powers, minus the stupid chimp.
The cast has been evolving, too, with Alice Eve, Nicholas Hoult, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Caleb Landry Jones, Lucas Till, and Kevin Bacon
all joining James McAvoy in the past four or five weeks. As we've pointed out, casting is going to move very quickly on this, because Fox is pressing for
First Class to open in 11 months, probably closer to nine by the time they get into production.
I'm a huge Matthew Vaughn fan - he just gets better with each film - so I'd hate Fox chairman Tom Rothman's release date-first approach to this movie
force Vaughn into a bad situation. But, by and large, I like the cast. He's got the writer he's most comfortable with (Jane Goldman), and this is a bit
deal for Fox as it tries to keep the X-Men franchise alive.
However, I don't know enough about Darwin (the mutant Darwin, anyway) to know if this is good casting or how large Gathegi's role might be. Faithful
readers?

I think Darwin is hispanic in the comics. He was never a major player as far as i can remember either.
