Friday, July 30, 2010 at 11:22AM No 'Superbad 2,' But Maybe 'Pineapple Express 2'
"Never, at any juncture in the history of life, have we considered Superbad 2," says Evan Goldberg, co-writer of the original Superbad. It's the same thing Seth Rogen has said for a couple years, although he has added that studio pressure was there to make a sequel.

But Goldberg tells MTV that just flat-out won't happen, holding the door open for another possibility, that the inferior Pineapple Express could get a follow-up. That story, he says, has a more natural extension, and that's true, and he adds that the sequel has kind of been mapped out. But it'll take a while before he, Rogen, and everyone else can come back to it.
"We kind of made the classic mistake of people who had a successful film: we then booked everything we could because we thought it'd be our only chance," Goldberg explains. "It still could be our only chance, but man are we booked."
Well, thank goodness part of that yes man policy included The Green Hornet. Now we'll never get a good movie version of that character. Goldberg and Rogen co-wrote that, of course, and Rogen - a terrible choice - plays the lead.
As for Pineapple Express 2, just let it focus on Danny McBride. Having seen it again recently, his character is the only one I'm interested in finding out more about. I have a hard time believing Rogen would write himself out of a movie, though.
