Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 4:28AM 'Up' Composer Michael Giacchino Scoring 'Let Me In'
A news update concerning composer Michael Giacchino that you might not otherwise think twice about, but you're smart enough to know that the right film music can make a huge difference, just the same way hiring a drunk cinematographer could give you an entirely different movie.

Giacchino, the Oscar winner this year for his terrific score for Up and a longtime Pixar and J.J. Abrams composer, has been hired to lay down tracks for Matt Reeves' Let Me In, the artful vampire remake out in theaters in October. The news comes from an unsurprising source, MichaelGiacchinoMusic.com, which reports that he's also doing the pilot episode for the Abrams-produced spy show, Undercovers, which airs this fall on what's left of NBC.
The connection here is easy to spot: Abrams mentored Reeves for years and Giacchino did music for Alias, Lost, Fringe, Star Trek, and Mission: Impossible III. Odds are, they've been at the same parties before, watching J.J. count his money.
As far as I'm concerned, this is a great maneuver. Giacchino is extremely versatile - compare the film scores to Call of Duty and Medal of Honor - and since the trailer for the remake doesn't look like it's breaking any new ground where the story is concerned, maybe the addition of the composer can give it a new layer it otherwise wouldn't have had.

Compare the film scores to what? Did he score the COD and MOH games also?
Yes. And a few other games, too.
Well, the original score for the original movie was absolutely stunning. Knowing that Giacchino is doing this makes me feel much better about this remake.
