Friday, August 13, 2010 at 3:04PM Ricky Gervais Really Not Taking Over 'The Office'
It's common knowledge that
Steve Carell is stepping down from
The Office after this next season. Seven years is a long time to lead a TV series, especially when you also have a movie or two each year. There's also the consideration that the work gets stale after a while, no matter how great the show once was. So it's hard to knock Carell for getting out.

One rumor had
Ricky Gervais replacing him in Scranton. Gervais, of course, is a co-creator of the show, which is a spin-off of the BBC version Gervais co-wrote, co-directed, and starred in. Additionally, a bunch of other Office shows have popped up around the world, including a new one headed to China. So would Gervais come to Dunder Miflin?
He replied to the rumors on
his blog, and it's pretty clear he has no interest in that at all:

There are still articles appearing about me taking over from Steve Carell on the American version of The Office. Maybe I haven't made it clear enough. I suppose it doesn't matter what I say for the world of entertainment news, so let's try a new approach. Report one of the following... I am definitely taking over from Steve Carell on The Office. Yes, I have been asked to take over as the new boss at Dunder Mifflin. I said yes. They made me an offer I just couldn't refuse. I will once again play David Brent and I take over next season. I can't wait. Steve Merchant and I will also write and direct. I will remain Executive Producer. or... I'm not taking over from Steve Carell and will just continue to make millions for doing fuck all because I created the show and all the characters, and own the format and it's being syndicated now and I get paid every time any episode of any version is played anywhere in the world, and I stopped my version at its height and I don't think I can improve on that, and I don't want to go back to that and get up at 6am every day of the week for 7 years. Only one of these is true. I don't know which one to believe. What would you do if you were me?

i say, lets do a british-american cast hybrid movie sendoff. Give it a $150 million budget and let them write and shoot for three years. Sounds like a great idea. End with a BANG!
Ricky Gervais sounds like an asshole. I don't think I'll watch the show anymore.
Ricky Gervais is a full blown screaming asshole. I refuse to watch anything he's remotely involved with in any way.
I hope he goes with option 1. that would be the better choice if he is a real human being. I hope he is being sarcastic in option 2. otherwise its time for that guy to go get some help.
i think he's bullshitting to be honest, ricky is a funny guy with a "creative" type of humor, how could he say he doesn't give a fuck about something that made him who he is, and 7 am 7 days a week, thats bullshit, i bet it would be 2 months a year at most of actual shooting. and the fact he put,"Only one of these is true. I don't know which one to believe. What would you do if you were me?" i think means hes doin it
I think the good Gervais has reached a place where he now is so famous and rich he feels he can behave like a douchebag.
Inevitably that will be his downfall when people start to realize the truth.
