Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 11:12PM Bale Out, Affleck and Weisz in for Malick's Next Film
While we continue to wait for Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life - and who knows when that will
happen - Malick is moving forward on another project. Several months back, an untitled romantic drama was set up with
Christian Bale, Rachel McAdams, Olga Kurylenko, and Javier Bardem. Pretty good, no?

Well, Bale is out, according to Movie Web, and Ben Affleck is in. Five years ago, we would have scoffed at the notion that
Ben Affleck could replace Bale in any project, and while I still don't think he's the actor Bale can be, even Bale hasn't
been the actor he can be over the past couple years, and he's also a headache.
There's no official confirmation from camp Affleck, however, Rachel Weisz, whose name was put into circulation at the same
time as Ben's, has confirmed she's joining Malick's next film. And if it shoots next year, say, then we should see this film
by probably 2016. I'm half-joking.
I'm moving the start date into next year despite the fact that it's still slated to begin shooting in Oklahoma in October. But with Tree of Life not ready to go for Toronto, which is just a few weeks away, so odds are, Malick will continue working on that film a little while longer so he can get it in theaters.
One thing about Oklahoma in October: If Malick misses that deadline, it's going to be a while before anybody wants to shoot there. The weather is miserable from mid-November to mid-March, and always unpredictable.
