All of a sudden, that adaptation of On the Road is zooming forward. We just found out it was
happening in April, with the announcement that Garrett Hedlund would star as Jack Kerouac's alter ego Dean Moriarty, and
that producer Francis Ford Coppola had hired The Motorcycle Diaries director Walter Salles.

A few other casting announcements flew by and suddenly On the Road was in production. They're already filming, having
filled key roles with Amy Adams, Viggo Mortensen, Kristen Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, and Sam Riley, and now comes news from The
Playlist that Alice Braga, Steve Buscemi, Elisabeth Moss from Mad Men, and Terrence Howard have jumped aboard.
Salles had been quietly working toward this film for years, so a lot of this work was done well before the August 4th production kick-off, and that helps explain why all these actors have come together so seamlessly. They're bouncing all over, too, which makes sense given the subject; Salles is shooting in Montreal, New Orleans, San Francisco, and New Mexico, and the film is scheduled to be released next year.
I wonder if the plan is to have this at Sundance or to wait. That would be a fast turnaround, but if they're done filming by early October or so, that could be enough time for Salles and Coppola to piece On the Road together. Sundance would be a perfect outlet for it.
