Sunday, August 15, 2010 at 12:05PM New Poster for Ben Affleck's 'The Town'
I've heard good things from someone on the inside about Ben Affleck's The Town. It opens next month and has a great cast, the names of whom appear in the cool poster that wound up at IMP Awards this weekend.

Unlike his previous directorial effort, the mostly good Gone Baby Gone, Affleck is appearing in this film, and from what I can gleen from the trailers, he's two-for-two capturing the struggle in his characters' lives. Ultimately, the story is everything - particularly when you're making films like this - and if your characters aren't believable, nothing else will be.
So right there, Affleck helps himself considerably A) By knowing this part of the country so well, and B) Getting some quality actors involved to make his job as a storyteller that much easier. Not that he's trying to make it easy on himself, but you get the idea.
And I'm a sucker for any movie with a bank robbery, because who hasn't stood in line at their local branch and just counted the security cameras? This film is about more than just pulling off the perfect job, of course, but it does make for a cool poster, don't you think.
The Town opens on September 10th.

I would actually be interested in you giving a rating for posters since you have an eye for them. Like "this poster derserves four damn dirty apes."
I'd give it Three Apes. The primary image is very memorable and well used, but throwing the cast photos on there mucks it up. I know they've got to sell some names, but I think it would be stronger without those pics.
This poster is bad ass!
I just dont see any reason as to why this film would NOT be a massive hit in theaters.
The cast photos does hinder it a bit but I guess you gotta sell the faces & names these days
