Idris Elba To Star In Alex Cross Reboot

A few months back, it was announced that author James Patterson's signature character, Dr. Alex Cross, will be rebooted for another several movies. That's the Morgan Freeman character from Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. The new Alex Cross, according to Deadline, is Idris Elba, seen in The Losers, The Wire, The Office, Obsessed, Rocknrolla, and very soon in Takers. But since nobody will see that, he's also in Thor. Happy to see a new star emerge; Elba's proven he's a pretty versatile talent, and I'm sure more people will get to know the name because of this pick-up. You might think, as I did, that because Paramount did the first Alex Cross movies and because Elba's in the studio's Thor that it might be connected. However, Paramount is listed by Deadline as just being a possibility to distribute this. Right now, it's just in the production stage minus studio support. Based on Deadline's reportage ("Cross tracks a serial rapist who may have murdered his pregnant wife years before"), I'm led to believe this will be an adaptation of Cross, which the all-mighty Wikipedia tells me is the 12th novel in the series. At the helm will be David Twohy, who directed Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick. I suppose this might push back that third Riddick movie.
