Friday, August 20, 2010 at 3:12PM More 'Hellraiser' On the Way, But Not the Reboot?
One high-profile 1980s horror remake has had a lot of trouble
getting off the ground, and Shock Till You Drop reports that a new film - not a
remake or reboot - called Hellraiser: Revelations is about to roll into
production.

Directors Darren Lynn Bousman and Pascal Laugier have been linked to it in the past
couple of years, but the prospects of both quickly evaporated. Last year, it was
refashioned as Clive Barker's Hellraiser with no director but a commitment to
3-D. And that was October. Since then...nothing. So who knows if that's ever going
to happen.
Here's what we know now about the new film, though: Victor Garcia will direct,
called up from the minors, having recently completed Mirrors 2, which will
probably wind up as a direct-to-video title. The script has been written by Gary
Tunnicliffe, an effects tech on some of the Hellraiser sequels. And it's
supposed to shoot fairly soon.
What a mess. I like the original idea for Hellraiser a lot and think it could
make for a good revision. I really don't get why there would be competing films in
the same family, especially one that hasn't been relevant in so long.
It would make more sense if this is actually the reboot and somehow the wires got crossed in releaseing the information about it, because they're both at basically the same point in development, so maybe that's it.
