Josh Holloway from 'Lost' the New Jim Rockford?

I always believed Jim Rockford should come back somehow, somewhere, and at some time. James Garner created such a great character that, a generation or more later, very little harm to the show's legacy could be done. Plus: Top ten all-time theme song. I didn't think, though, that NBC would plumb for The Rockford Files when the network is at its nadir. Proof that they've made some bad decisions was underscored by the fact that this new Rockford Files would star Dermot Mulroney. Seriously? Well, not now. Entertainment Weekly says Lost alumnus Josh Holloway could wind up starring in the series, which is produced by House executive David Shore, Peter Berg, and Steve Carell, an odd trio. If nothing else, he's a much better fit than Mulroney in addition to having instant face if not name recognition, something NBC desperately needs in prime time. The pilot with Mulroney was ripped apart within the industry, so the show went back to the drawing board, and now, "Peter Berg’s involved producing and possibly directing and we will be looking for a new lead,” says a source. Holloway's name is just being mentioned at this point, and since it won't be on the fall 2010 schedule anymore, there's not as big a demand to get it done right away. Holloway would command a much higher salary than Mulroney would have, so a few things will have to be ironed out before this goes ahead. Another of the great TV shows coming back is CBS's Hawaii 5-0, starring Les Moonves' hand-picked megastar nobody gives a damn about, Alex O'Laughlin. That show features another Lost alum, Daniel Dae-Kim. And, like Rockford, it's also being shepherded by guys who have cut their teeth in film, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman of Star Trek and Transformers fame.

For the record Kurtzman and Orci got their start in television on Hercules and Xena then on Alias before making the transition into film.

Josh is a perfect fit as "Rockfish." "Recon" was like an audition tape for the gig (and one of the best episodes of Season 6, IMO). I would have given both Josh and Nestor Carbonell Emmy nominations for their work this season.

Now if they get Ken Leung to play either Angel or Becker, throw in Jorge Garcia to play whichever part Ken doesn't want, and add Terry O'Quinn as Rocky and Elizabeth Mitchell as Beth, you've got my dream cast! I just saw the "Shield reunion" ep of "Lie to Me", and enjoyed it a lot. So why not "Rockford: The 'Lost' Episodes"?
