Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 2:50PM First Look: Sean Penn in 'This Must Be the Place'
Wow, I've got to say, Sean Penn has seen better days. I suppose that could be the point, though. Here he is on set of his latest film, This Must Be the Place. Yes, that's lipstick.

I had not even heard of the film, but it's apparently a thriller co-starring Frances McDormand and Harry Dean Stanton. The film is directed and co-written by Italian filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino and it's produced, in part, by Pathé, which is a sure sign it won't just sit on a shelf somewhere.
So why is the happiest guy in Hollywood all dolled up? He's playing an ex-rock star, see, who...um...I'll let the synopsis fill in the blanks. I'd hate to get something wrong. Here it is, courtesy of Worst Previews:

"Cheyenne, a wealthy former rock star (Penn), now bored and jaded in his retirement embarks on a quest to find his father's persecutor, an ex-Nazi war criminal now hiding out in the US. Learning his father is close to death, he travels to New York in the hope of being reconciled with him during his final hours, only to arrive too late. Having been estranged for over 30 years, it is only now in death that he learns the true extent of his father's humiliation in Auschwitz at the hands of former SS Officer Aloise Muller - an event he is determined to avenge. That may be a little too much bile coming to the surface for one movie, but if one guy has the intensity to pull it off...well, OK, there are a few guys, but Penn is one of them. But how many of them would go Full Lipstick, I ask you?
