Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 11:40AM Kristen Bell, Anna Paquin Late Additions to 'Scream 4'
I understood Star Wars coming back and even Indiana Jones to a certain extent. The last Rocky movie was a great way to end that series, and Toy Story 3 is up there with The Bourne Ultimatum among the past threequels ever. So, yeah, you can go home again.

But does Scream really need to? It certainly wasn't designed to hold a couple handfuls of films; it was intended to take the mickey out of the predictable and often silly nature of horror movies. That's why they got worse as they went on, because the novel idea didn't work in sequels.
So Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson have Scream 4 in theaters next spring. Depending on what they do with it - hopefully that means killing off the carryover characters and moving forward with a new crowd - there's still some wiggle room in the concept, I guess. To that end, there's more casting news to announce:

Dimension Films has confirmed that Anna Paquin and Kristen Bell will appear in the upcoming SCREAM 4, which is currently shooting. As previously announced, original SCREAM cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette reprise their roles in SCREAM 4, and joining them are Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Marielle Jaffe, Rory Culkin, Nico Tortorella, Erik Knudsen, Anthony Anderson, Adam Brody, Marley Shelton, Alison Brie and Mary McDonnell. Wes Craven is producing and directing.I heart Kristen Bell, like a lot. Never got into the Veronica Mars thing but I think she's got great comedic chops, which should never go overlooked. Not big on Paquin, though I'll acknowledge she can be good at times. But their additions seem like window dressing. I mean, the movie's been shooting for quite a while. Victims? They've got to be limited roles, you'd imagine, but I think Wes Craven's just greasing us to keep us interested, or get us interested in some cases.
