Shia LaBeouf Hollywood's Most Profitable Star, Again

We have wondered what the big deal is about Shia LaBeouf, and now the verdict is in: For the second year in a row, Shia is Hollywood's most profitable actor, according to Forbes. The Forbes lists are always interesting if not very intuitive, but there's no doubting this number: For every dollar Shia LaBeouf is paid, his films make $81. That's excellent. And really, as we go down the list you'll see exactly how good that is. Here's where Forbes goes wrong, though. The magazine has Anne Hathaway as the second most profitable star, based almost exclusively on Alice in Wonderland. Not her movie. Barely in it. An Anne Hathaway movie is something like Bride Wars. Even Valentine's Day doesn't really count, except that in Forbes' fancy cipherin', it does. Not that she shouldn't be considered, but there has to be some factorial for being a supporting player in someone else's showcase. The forumla is a rolling five-year average, and each star has to have three wide releases in that time to qualify, so Shia benefits from two Transformers movies, plus Disturbia and Indy IV. Now, if we're making this evaluation qualatative, then I'd say Johnny Depp is the most profitable actor. He's in the top ten as it is, but his salary is so high these days that it's hard to look at the Pirates movies and Alice, both of which are on his shoulders, and say, "What else do three of the ten biggest movies ever have in common?" 1 - Shia LaBeouf - $81
