Offering that it's far from a done deal and in fact could ultimately be nothing, Pajiba has heard that a long-in-development update of The Shadow may have captured the attention of one Quentin Tarantino (or perhaps the other way 'round).

Sam Raimi called dibs on The Shadow quite a long time ago, and when it moved from Sony to Fox recently, Raimi left the director's chair and David Slade assumed the position. I had not heard the Slade news, which Pajiba does report as being not independently confirmed. But it was still in a state of flux, not a five-alarm blaze at its new home, and this is where it gets interesting.
"The person that is now attached to the project is none other than Quentin Tarantino, who is also attached as co-writer," claims the site and its source, known as The Hollywood Cog. "This comes as big a surprise to me as anyone, because I don’t know where Sam Raimi and Quentin Tarantino’s movie pathways have crossed, and so far as I know, The Shadow has never been mentioned among the 27 dozen projects that Tarantino has always been obsessed with."
He is, however, in the discussion to direct the film, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. Tarantino does what he does as well as anybody, and I'm always leery of writer-directors who seize another opportunity in an effort to broaden horizons or something. It can work, but maybe he just plays all the wrong notes. Still, it's a more compelling choice than David Slade, or just about anyone else I can think of off the top of my head.

Only if it stars Alec Baldwin!
Tarantino has more a sense of "old Hollywood", and he DOES need to broaden his horizon beyond the exploitation era that he has mined to it's limit. I'll admit to being one of few who didn't like his "Kelly's Heroes" homage (I"ve never liked that one either) "Inglorious Basterds". Raimi would be great, I'm sad to see him off it, but face it, he's done Darkman already. It's riskier with Tarantino, but if he blows it he can always run back to exploitationville with Kill Bill 3.
QT feeds my heart evil every day in the form of Steak and Cheese Taquitos. Spawn of Satan, those...
