Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 4:17PM Aaron Johnson Not Joining 'X-Men: First Class'?
Kick-Ass is out on Blu-ray and DVD now, so get it. The star (at least the titular star), Aaron Johnson, had been all but guaranteed for X-Men: First Class, playing the young Cyclops. But MovieWeb just found out something different.

Interviewing producer Tarquin Pack, who was promoting Kick-Ass and is working with director Matthew Vaughn on First Class, MovieWeb asked about other casting news. "Nothing you don't know about, yeah. Don't believe everything you read in the papers about Aaron, unfortunately. Aaron's kind of busy, yeah."
Oh. OK then.
So it sounds like he's not a go. I mean, what else could that mean, really? It's a damn shame, because when an actor and a director find synchronicity, it's good to keep going back to that combination. Also, we know he could pull it off.
Now, as it relates to the film itself, Pack does confirm one of the week's odd stories, that part of the script had to be cut because of a similarity to Inception, and we're assured that First Class won't be a Kick-Ass treatment of X-Men.

"[Vaughn] has a way of authoring movies, like you see in Layer Cake, Stardust and Kick-Ass, that nuanced outlook will be in X-Men because that's just the way he is as a director. That's just the way he works. I think all of the movies he's done, where you expect him to turn right, he turns left."And with the departure of Aaron Johnson, maybe even when he doesn't want to.

I dunno, maybe they just don't want to commit to anything, and save that sort of news for later?
