Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 10:10AM DVD New Release of the Week: 'Prince of Persia'
So we traditionally don't cover DVD/BluRay/Netflix (add more here) releases here at GTBP, but why not? Post theatrical releases is a huge market and I'm sure most people here have either Netflix or BluRay disc players. So going forward every tuesday, I want to tell our audience what we think is the best newly released movie to watch for the week.

This week, he had three movies to release on DVD, 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time', 'Letters to Juliet', and 'Just Wright'. This week's DVD movie releases are mediocre at best, but if you're looking for just an entertaining movie you can mindlessly sit in front of your TV and enjoy, put Price of Persia on your Netflix list. According the Rottentomatoes.com, its actually rated the lowest out the three at 37% but if you go into it with the expectation of,"I'm just going to have a good time", I think you'll be satisfied. The action and special effects of the movie are great and Jake Gyllenhaal (not Persian!) is still a good actor.
Plus, they spent $150 million on it and it only did $90.7 million at the box. They need the money...bad!
Here's the trailer (though you've probably seen it a million times):

I have a suggestion for this column however. I think it'd be good to have a list of the movies out on DVD every Tuesday, write a little blurb about the movie itself, maybe have a link to its IMDB page (or even better, the review on this site if one's available) and then save a bigger portion devoted to what you think is the best DVD/Blu-Ray of the week.
I do hope that the blog layout is going to receive an overhaul soon. The social bookmarks are inelegant. The permalink button unneccesary (post title = permalink). Nobody uses the print button (make a print.css like everyone in the 20th century), and i'm not curious enough to look for the difference between the "email" and "share" button, but i can imagine either one can be removed.
also. The feedburner button is an atrocity... i will gladly make a new one myself just to have this one removed from my favourite movie blog.
Regarding weekly DVDs, my bias is towards movies that probably haven't been seen by our readers yet but this week's releases were horrible. Still, I'm sure there are people who would appreciate a mindlessly entertainment flick. Thanks!
