Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 12:21AM Reynolds Talks 'Deadpool' Talk; Rodriguez Walks?
Ryan Reynolds should probably leave Deadpool behind. He doesn't need it, Fox is almost certainly going to screw it up, and with the delays in
getting the project going, it may just be a waste of his time. The subject is getting renewed interest for two reasons. First, Robert Rodriguez, who has been flirting with
the movie for a while, is in a state of negotiations with the studio that has been described as "tenuous." That's not good. And if Rodriguez goes, it's time to call in the
action hacks just so Fox' investment isn't drawn out ad infinitum.

The second reason Deadpool is newsworthy is that Reynolds has talked to Total Film (by way of Comic Book Movie) about the movie. He's still very excited about
it, as you can tell. "Deadpool is not a superhero movie, it's a deconstruction of superhero movies," Reynolds says, "so to come off Green Lantern and have the
opportunity to do a movie like Deadpool is great in every way possible."
Except he may not "come off" Green Lantern and get that chance. We've already talked about Warner Bros.' interesting in plowing through three Lantern movies
one on top of the other, and after the success of The Proposal, Reynolds has a bunch of other projects that are ready to go. Advantage: People with their shit
together.
But the way out for all parties involved is underscored in another of Reynolds' comments to the magazine. On the subject of how the new story will mesh with X-Men
Origins: Wolverine, where the character got his start, Reynolds says, "The two movies have absolutely no connection at all, that's how." So how hard would it be to
replace him for a guy more readily available and conversely, how easy does that make it for Reynolds to pass if he doesn't like the director, whenever that happens?
Reynolds is a big fan of the script, though, and says it's walking a line between a PG-13 and R-rated movie. If I had to bet, I'd say Fox will never make an R-rated comic
book spin-off, I don't think. Maybe a standalone, one-time-only thing, but in the X-Men family? I rather doubt it.
I still believe Reynolds will see the project through, you know, unless it drags on another year and a new director wants a fistful of rewrites. There's potential in the
story, to be sure, but I think Deadpool is better served outside that wet blanket factory Fox is running in its comic book movie wing.

As for Warner Brothers? What have they got to do with anything? Reynolds isn't tied down to them, there is no golden handcuffs contract. Reynolds' future is in his own hands, he can do what he wants. And he wants to make Deadpool. Nuff said.
Personally I don't care if we have to wait for deadpool as long as it gets made and with Ryan because he is deadpool I don't care. If anything I think doing both roles would be awesome. They should start the deadpool teaser with Ryan saying "In the brightest day, in the blackest night, no buritos shall escape my sight." Then it flashes to deadpool and he's like "What you were expecting someone else?"
I wish this movie would come out sooner. Between Ryan and the Zombieland writers, it's going to be incredible.
