Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 10:01AM Clint Eastwood Was Right. DiCaprio to Play Hoover
Yesterday, we reported that Clint Eastwood was moving full steam ahead filling out his actor roster for his upcoming film, 'Hoover', banking that Leo will sign. Today, it's confirmed that DiCaprio will indeed play the role of J. Edgar Hoover opposite of Joaquin Phoenix (offer was made to him and I think he'll sign).

This creates an all-star team like the Miami Heat. Eastwood, DiCaprio, Dustin Black (writer of 'Milk' who won an academy award for best screenplay) and Joaquin Phoenix. However, it's the story that has critics worried. J. Edgar Hoover wasn't the most revealing guy and Black admits, "the contradiction between what he believed his history was and what the history actually was - it lends itself to a less-traditional structure. There are more contradictions [than 'Milk']."
I'm curious how the screenplay will be written about a man who never really revealed himself and who he is. Will Black just take a best guess? One things for sure, this movie + this cast + this deep yet possibly boring plot= good chance for DiCaprio's first Oscar. It'll be like when Denzel got the academy award for Training Day - it's overdue.

Yet another amazing lineup for Eastwood. I'm impressed!
denzel had an academy award before training day.
LOSTY, what I meant to say is an Academy Award for Best Actor. I believe he got one as a supporting actor for 'Glory'.
