Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 11:01AM Friday Box Office Results: 'Wall Street' Leads Others
While it's not surprising that 'Wall Street' was the number one film at the box office Friday, the film would most likely under-perform expectations of execs at Twentieth Century Fox. The Oliver Stone directed film starring Michael Douglas and Shia LaBeouf, raked in $7 million on 3,565 theaters easily beating other major releases, 'Legend of The Guardians: The Owls' and 'You Again'. 'The Town' held strong at the number two spot at $5 million on 2,885 screens.

Here are your top five grossing films for Friday (Source: Variety):
1. 'Wall Street' - $7 million
2. 'The Town' - $5 million
3. 'Legend of Guardians' - $4.9 million
4. 'Easy A' - $3.8 million
5. 'You Again' $2.75 million
Based on these Friday numbers, we can get a pretty good sense for how the weekend is going to turn out. Here's what these films are on pace to do.
1. 'Wall Street' - $22 million
2. 'Legend of Guardians' - $17 million
3. 'The Town' - $16 million
4. 'Easy A' - $12 million
5. 'You Again' - $9 million
Looks like a lukewarm victory for 'Wall Street'. Of course if they did a 3D version, they would do $30 million (kidding).

I was pretty close on Wall Street and a couple million off on Owls . I feel that neither will be a huge success in the long run, however. I read that Wall Street cost around $80 million to make (and it probably won't make that in domestic sales). Don't know what the budget is for Owls but I'm pretty sure it's more than the $55-60 million it'll make in US ticket sales.
