Friday, September 3, 2010 at 6:48PM Tom Hardy Signs On To 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy'
Tom Hardy will cash in on his head-turning work in Inception this summer. Having already been cast as the next Mad Max, Hardy now replaces the suddenly busy Michael Fassbender in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

That film is one I'm definitely looking forward to. It's an adaptation of a John le Carré book, and it gives us the great British operative George Smiley, famously played by Sir Alec Guinness once upon a time. Fast forward 30 years or so, and Gary Oldman is Smiley, with Ralph Fiennes, Colin Firth, and now Tom Hardy.
As if the cast wasn't good enough news (with or without Fassbender and/or Hardy), Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy will be directed by Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In), which makes me think this will have a much deeper vibe to it than a lot of recent spy pictures. I actually thought of The Spy Who Came in from the Cold - another le Carré film - while watching The American last night, so if you see that one in the next few weeks, this might be similar in tone.
They'll start shooting in a few weeks, so says The Playlist, although Working Title doesn't have it in the chute until 2012. Could be early that year, I suppose.
