Sunday, September 5, 2010 at 10:47AM Box Office - 'American' Wins Slow Holiday Weekend
There were conflicting reports about the Friday box office, some saying The
American won with $3.9 million and others saying Machete got the nod with the same amount. It really only matters for
that one day, I guess, because in either case, the margin of victory was about $100,000.

However, it looks like The American will win the traditional three-day weekend, even though there's a big discrepancy in the numbers for Machete depending on where you look, and with Labor Day counting on the
tail end, the four-day, as well. And since it was released on Wednesday, The American gets the rare six-day weekend
to tout, even though the overall numbers still won't be that big. It's a surprise that it will win, though, because there
wasn't nearly the amount of attention paid to this film as some of George Clooney's projects and because Machete had
so much buzz.
The American, according to the Sunday estimates, will draw nearly $13 million over the three-day period, and going
back to Wednesday, that's a little more than $16 million. Counting Labor Day, The American will almost be in the
black in terms of recouping the budget costs.
Machete, meanwhile, should have done better. With the immigration plot providing a touchstone moment and The
Expendables recently showing that AARP action films can work (Taken and Gran Torino did that, too),
Machete should have won this weekend without much trouble. Instead, it looks like it will be about half a million
behind Clooney through Sunday. That's one set of numbers. Another one says it's actually well below that, around $11.3 million, not even good enough for second place. We'll give it the benefit of the doubt until the actual numbers come in.
Takers is one of the real surprises of the season, making another
$11.4 million over the weekend to take its total into the high-30s. Didn't expect this one to make $60 million-plus, but
it's lining up for that pretty well. The Last Exorcism finished fourth with about $7.7 million, leading
Drew Barrymore's Going
the Distance, the most distant new release, which could only muster $7 million over
three days. How weak is that? Inception made $4.7 million in half as many theaters almost eight weeks into its run.
The Top Five:
1 - The American ($12.9 million)
2 - Machete ($12.3 million)
3 - Takers ($11.4 million)
4 - The Last Exorcism ($7.7 million)
5 - Going the Distance ($7.1 million)

When it's cold you want something that can really protect you from the cold and wet, you can opt for the cheap north face jacket. Because the North Face is such a great brand that its jackets can be quite costly. However, the cost at the North Face Outlet can save you a lot of money! When you are shopping for cheap north face jacket is definitely one of the best brands to stick with. A lot of the time there will be a surplus of the north face because other people don't want to pay that much for a jacket! This is why you can generally wait a bit longer and wait for the retailer to mark the price down before buying, because there will be plenty left to choose from. This is a good way to get cheap North face.
