'Black Swan' Co-Writer Scripting Sci-Fi Flick 'Age of Rage' for Director Marc Webb

Before director Marc Webb was whisked away on his Spider-Man adventure, he was developing a post-apocalyptic sci-fi film entitled Age of Rage.  Not much has been said about the project since Webb has been spending 24/7 with the webslinger.  But, now that Spider-Man is well into physical production, Fox Searchlight, which owns the rights to Age of Rage, has hired a writer for Webb in hopes to get things moving again.  And, the studio didn't have to look far for their scribe as they've hired Black Swan co-writer Mark Heyman.

Heyman is a relative newcomer to the screenwriting world as the Oscar nominated Black Swan was his first feature project.  But, that doesn't mean he's new to Hollywood seeing as he came up as director Darren Aronofsky's assistant at Protozoa Pictures and is already on writing assignment for another Aronofsky film, Machine Man.

Age of Rage is "set in a post-apocalyptic society where all the adults have died and a group of teens sets about trying to establish a new society."  It's also been described as "Lord of the Flies meets Children of Men" but that was in 2008 when Children of Men was hot and used in just about every Hollywood pitch meeting.  Regardless, I'm sold.  Now the studio just need to find a solid young cast.

It is worth noting that although this film is Webb's brainchild, as of now he has not officially signed on for it to be his post-Spider-Man project.  This is really just a technicality and I don't see any reason why this wouldn't be his next film especially if he wants to take on something different before returning for the inevitable Spider-Man sequel.
