Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 2:05PM Studio Ready to Make 'Red' Sequel
Looks like Summit Entertainment will bring back the old folks from the hit action movie Red for another go-around. According to HeyUGuys, the studio was so pleased with the box office success ($164 million) of the film and the subsequent Golden Globe nomination that they've already began to develop a follow-up.
No deals have been announced for stars Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich or Morgan Freeman to return yet. There's also been no word on whether Robert Schwentke will be back to direct the sequel.
Red was based on a popular comic by Warren Ellis, who will not be involved in the development of the next film. Erich and Jon Hoeber will return to pen the script for Red 2.
I suspect when it's all said and done, Frank Moses (Willis) and his team of previously retired black-ops agents will be back kicking ass and taking names again. I'm not sure we'll see Freeman's character in the sequel, as I seem to remember he was killed off in Red, though I could be mistaken.
Red was a pleasant surprise to me considering I had extremely low expectations for it, and now is the perfect time for the studio to put together the next installment.
Are you guys excited to see Red 2 or should it be time for Willis and the other senior citizens to call it quits?

Good for Summit. Who would've thought that RED would be such a success and become the studio's highest grossing (non- Twilight ) film?
