Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 11:06PM 'Scream 4' Synopsis Revealed Via Today's Test Screening

My name is Mike and I'm a Scream-aholic. Not only am I addicted to the Scream franchise, I am unapologetically addicted to it. Now, I get made fun of a lot for the fact that the first Scream has found its way onto my favorite films list (I repeat favorite films, not best films) but hey who cares, man. Unapologetic, remember?
Whether you love the series or hate it, the only thing that really matters is that the first film in a new trilogy, Scream 4, is set for release on April 15. And, while most of us have been able to guess what the film is about after seeing the first trailer, the official synopsis was revealed this week via the invitation to the first test screening that took place today in Pennsylvania. I've enclosed the synopsis after the jump to avoid any spoilerific territory here, but the real news is in the test screening.
Synopsis:
Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), now the author of a self-help book, returns home to Woodsboro on the last stop of her book tour. There she reconnects with Sheriff Dewey (David Arquette) and Gale (Courteney Cox), who are now married, as well as her cousin Jill (Emma Roberts) and her Aunt Kate (Mary McDonnell). Unfortunately Sidney’s appearance also brings about the return of Ghostface, putting Sidney, Gale, and Dewey, along with Jill, her friends, and the whole town of Woodsboro in danger.
So, like I said, you probably already figured that much out by the trailer (which I've included below). The real news here will potentially come from tonight's test screening. By the time you've read this, the Pennsylvania test screening will have finished and, even though everyone in the audience will have signed a non-disclosure agreement, someone in that audience will have posted the identity of the killer(s) online.
While I'm usually all about the spoilers, this is one case where I'm going to have to go out of my way to avoid them. Part of the fun, okay almost all of the fun, of this series is from guessing who the killer is, and finding out who by reading a name in the comments of some news site will not only kill (pun intended) the surprise but will most likely kill this film at the box office. Rarely do I like when films have alternate endings, but this film is the exception for me as an alternate ending might throw off some of those spoilers.
If you were one of those lucky audience members at tonight's test screening, tell us what you thought in the comments below. But, pretty pretty please try to avoid any spoilers.
