Friday, October 14, 2011 at 10:24AM Oscar Isaac Nets Lead Role in Coen Brothers Folk Music Movie
Many of you may not know Oscar Isaac from Oscar the Grouch, but that's guaranteed to change after he stars in the next Coen Brothers movie. Isaac recently had a terrific, albeit short-lived performance in Drive, as well as a very creepy (also small) role in Sucker Punch. According to Deadline, the Coen Brothers think highly enough of the actor to have handed him the lead role in their new folk music inspired film, Inside Llewyn Davis.
This will be the first film they'll both write and direct since the True Grit remake. The story will focus on the folk music scene in New York during the 1960's, and is said to be loosely based on the real life accounts of what Dave Van Ronk, a folk musician himself, experienced at the time. He apparently witnessed the emergence of great performers like Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, and the unforgettable impact their music had on the culture and music scene during the era.
I have undying loyalty to the Coen brothers, and even though I don't listen to much folk music I really want to see this movie.
No word on when production will start yet.

I thought he made quite an impression in both "Sucker Punch" and "Drive" and it will be interesting to see how the Coens handle that influential period of music.
